Hey everyone, this is Keith Valentine. Today, I'm going to talk to you about the new Pro XR paddles from Pro XR. We're going to cover the Sweet Spot Max, and I'll also discuss the Signature Series Zane Navratil paddle. Now, this already came out a couple of years back in a 14 mm version. They’re now bringing these out in 13 mm with different colorways. It still features the 6-inch handle, an 8 mm paddle thickness, and an elongated shape. This is perfect for two-handed backhands because of its length. The only knock on this paddle is the twist weight. Since it's a bit thinner and longer, you might need to add a little weight to the edge, especially on the 13 mm version. They've also got a Connor Garnett version and multiple colorways in the Pro XR lineup. I really like this paddle—it’s one of the top spinning paddles tested, reaching the 2000 RPM range in spin. It features a T700 raw carbon fiber face. Everything from the original paddle is here, but now with a little more pop, thanks to the shift from 14 mm to 13 mm. With this handle and paddle shape, you can generate tons of spin. It's a very powerful paddle and a great all-court option. If you watch Zane Navratil play with it, you'll see how he makes this paddle dance—and I noticed no difference when I played with it myself. As far as power and spin go, this paddle is right up there, allowing you to do a lot of damage. Now, let’s talk about the Sweet Spot Max. This is the exact opposite of everything I just said about the Pro XR. This is a control paddle with a wider sweet spot—hence the name "Sweet Spot Max." It’s still 8.25 oz, with a 5.25-inch handle, but it has a square handle. One of the biggest differences between these two models is that this paddle is not only a 16 mm paddle but also has a very blocky, square handle. With only a 5.25-inch handle, this paddle is not ideal for two-handed backhands. If you rely on two-handed backhands, this is not the paddle for you. The Signature Series paddle is an all-court paddle, leaning more toward the power side if you weight it properly. For instance, if you play it at 9 oz, it becomes a true power paddle. As it is now, it’s a good all-court option. However, the Sweet Spot Max is purely a control paddle—it’s not going to give you much power. If you need power from your paddle, this is not the one for you. If you're a beginner asking me which paddle to play with, I always recommend starting with a control paddle, regardless of the brand or model. Elongated paddles are harder to play with for new players. Focus on keeping the ball in play and not losing points. Over time, you can graduate to faster or more powerful paddles. Personally, I started with the Selkirk Vanguard paddle, one of the softest paddles on the market, and played with it for years. Beginners often grip the paddle too tightly, turning it into a "rocket launcher." A softer paddle helps you grow into the game more comfortably. Once you develop your skills, you can transition to elongated paddles for more spin and power. Lastly, one reason this paddle line is great for beginners and players with smaller hands (including many women) is the handle size. The grips are only 4 inches in circumference, among the smallest on the market. Smaller hands can grip these paddles better, providing more control. For larger hands, you can simply add one or two overgrips to increase the size to 4 1/4 or 4 1/2 inches. Thank you, Pro XR, for sending us these paddles!
