Your first instinct at the kitchen line should be to take the ball out of the air. You know how you can immediatly tell you’re not doing that— one of your feet will take a small step back… That tiny step back says that your instinct wasn’t to take it out of the air — it was to let it bounce. In pickleball, if you’re truly ready to take the ball out of the air, your feet should stay parallel to the kitchen line so you’re balanced, athletic, and maximizing your reach.
