This doesn't happen very often, and if we look at the last year, it really appeared to be the year of Kevlar and Gen 3 paddles—powering themselves right off the allowed list and onto the naughty list. But CRBN has been around for a while now, and they’ve stayed very true to their origins. They only have six models of paddles—two flavors of each body style. Now, they’re introducing their third: meet the CRBN True Foam. This is the new lineup from CRBN. They’re going to have the same three shapes, just like the other models. I’ll pop up pictures on the screen here with the specs, and you can read them as I’m talking. What I hold in my hand is the very first Gen 4 paddle. Now, if you’re new to this game, let me explain what Gen 4 means. These paddles are 100% foam core—this is the new paddle technology, so to speak, when it comes to paddle generations. The Gen 4 is the next evolution. So, what did they do? Other than the traditional paddle design, they completely redesigned the core technology from the ground up, using a new material to create a unique blend that is supposedly significantly more durable than the honeycomb core paddles available today. This paddle just feels different from day one. It delivers outstanding performance right away and stays consistent. There is virtually no break-in period—no hard adjustments you need to make. And they actually got the idea for this foam core from the surfboard industry. Right? The way they engineer the foam in surfboards—the stiffness, the density—that’s the kind of technology they’re using in these paddles. And with this new core, you can shape shots like it’s your job. Seriously, I was able to apply pressure on serves and returns without hitting the back wall, yet still hit some amazing groundstrokes. Now, let’s talk about spin. I think this paddle is going to be top-tier for spin. Once it’s tested, I have no doubt it’s going to rank among the best. The elephant in the room: will it stay legal? I’ve been assured by the manufacturer that this paddle was designed to conform to both current and future USA Pickleball standards. But, let’s be honest—USAP has been moving the target on paddle regulations. That’s what’s been happening. For now, this paddle is legal, but if USAP changes the rules, well… we’ll have to cross that bridge when we get there—just like with all these paddle companies. One more thing I really appreciate about CRBN’s approach: one thickness. You used to have to change paddle thickness to adjust power. Not anymore. CRBN is sticking with 14mm, and that’s because it allows them to pack enough density into the paddle to make it play exactly how they want. And let me tell you, 14mm is plenty. You get plenty of pop without sacrificing control. A lot of times, when you go below 16mm, you lose control. But with the way this paddle is balanced—how the ball flies off the face—it stays completely in control. Counterpunching with this paddle? Ridiculous. I’m calling it now: this is going to be one of the best paddles of 2025. A lot of companies are going to follow suit. This paddle actually reminds me of another one I recently reviewed: the Robust R.E.D. That’s another paddle that I think is going to be huge in 2025. This paddle retails for $280, which is exactly what I’d expect for this level of technology. But with our discount code, you can get an additional discount on that. Big thanks to CRBN for sending us these paddles! And a huge thank you to those of you who use our code—it really helps us keep the lights on and keep bringing you high-quality reviews to help with your paddle purchases.
