I will never forget my first professional pickleball tournament. At that time I had only been playing pickleball for about 6–8 months. I was probably around a 4.0–4.5 level and I had no idea who I was about to play. Then someone told me: you're playing against Ben Johns. Everyone around me was nervous… but I wasn’t. I didn’t even know who he was yet. That match completely changed the way I looked at pickleball. After getting beat badly, I went back and watched the footage and realized something important: my game had huge gaps. I could hit the ball hard and volley well, but I was missing key skills that higher level players use every rally. One of the biggest weaknesses I discovered was my backhand crosscourt dink. So I spent hours practicing it. In this video I’m going to show you three important backhand skills that can transform your pickleball game: • The backhand crosscourt dink • The backhand reset • The backhand volley put-away If you want to move from 3.5 to 4.0 or from 4.0 to 4.5, these backhand techniques will help you become a much more complete player.
