How To Breakthrough To 4.0+ Pickleball (Key Shots Explained)

Are you currently trying to make the transition from 3.X to 4.0+ and finding that there are lot of obstacles? The 3.X gam is based primarily in power played off the kitchen line (bangers) and 4.x is a complete game played at the kitchen. Progressing through 3.X is pretty straightforward. Simply bang hard with slightly more accuracy than your opponents. The transition to 4.0 means embracing a part of the game that you suck at so you currently get worse. Your resets, drops and dinks are likely not that consistent. If you try to rely on them, you lose games. Unlike Banging, 4.0 requires a partner that's on the same page. One that comes up after you drop, shades at the kitchen, respects the X and is willing to sue the 4.x shots. The 3.X pagers are reluctant to do this because they know they will lose. When you are allowed to slip in to 4.X games but your skills aren't quite up to snuff. The solution is a combination of things. It’s a good idea to find a good instructor and take 2-4 lessons per month to ensure your mechanics are sound. While you're doing that, you need to find a drill partner (or get a ball machine) and get in thousands of reps in the following areas: Dinks Drops Resets from the transition zone (off bounce & volley) Block Volley reset from the NVZ Push Block Volley (Counter) Drill these shots 3x per week for 90 minutes at a time. With any extra time you have, play games and see how your new skills are performing in play. As you get feedback on how your shots are holding up in play, take that information and let it inform your upcoming drilling sessions focusing on the areas needing more improvement. This will then give you the full arsenal of shots that allows you to leapfrog out of 3.X and get you squarely into 4.0.
