One of the biggest mistakes I see beginner and intermediate pickleball players make on backhand counters is swinging way too big! A lot of players think more power comes from a bigger swing… but that’s actually NOT TRUE 🙂↔️ Higher-level players keep this shot compact. ✔️Bent elbows. ✔️Paddle close to the body. ✔️Short, controlled swing. If you watch players like Anna Bright, you’ll notice her paddle never goes way behind her shoulders, and her elbows stay in near her torso. That compact motion is what helps with timing, control, and consistency! If your backhand counter feels rushed or out of control, try this simple cue: 👉 bend your elbows and keep them near your torso 👉 shorten the swing 👉 focus on timing, not power It might not feel flashy at first, but it’s a really good place to start if you want a more consistent backhand counter.
