NY Hustlers, Dallas Flash Pickleball, Las Vegas Night Owls Enjoy Big Weekends at MLP Washington, D.C.

The second event of the Major League Pickleball season took place this past weekend in our nation's capital, where capacity crowds descended on the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation for MLP Washington, D.C.

League officials said they welcomed between 10,000-12,000 people from Thursday to Sunday.

Maryland native, world No. 1 and Carolina Pickleball Club star Ben Johns was impressed.

"It’s clear there was a demand for this kind of event," Johns told the Washington Times. "People have been thirsting for it."

"The fans showed up in such a cool way," Adam Behnke, COO of the D.C. Pickleball Team, told the Times. "This, to me, is the culmination of all the work we’ve done since we launched the club in December 2021. I’m just so humbled and impressed."

Premier Level results from MLP Washington, D.C.

As for the action on the court, the NY Hustlers led the way at the Premier Level, leaving town with 15 total points, thanks to three regulation wins and three Dreambreaker Ws as well.

Individually, three players from the Dallas Flash Pickleball team stood above the rest, as JW Johnson, Jorga Johnson and Augie Ge went a combined 19-5. Hurricane Tyra Black also showed well, winning five of her eight games for Dallas.

Quang Duong, who replaced Christian Alshon for the Texas Ranchers, won four of his 10 games.

Challenger Level results from MLP Washington, D.C.

At the Challenger Level, the Las Vegas Night Owls produced 11 points, thanks to four Dreambreaker wins.

Todd Fought carried the event for the ATL Bouncers, posting a perfect 8-0 mark while winning 60 percent of his points. Jaume Martinez Vich wasn't too far behind his teammate, winning seven of his eight games.

After the weekend's results in D.C., the NY Hustlers are in first place at the Premier Level, followed closely by the St. Louis Shock and Dallas Flash Pickleball.

At the Challenger Level, the ATL Bouncers are now tied atop the standings with the Brooklyn Aces after their 10-point weekend. They are the only two teams to have played eight matches.

The next event on the MLP schedule is the Mid-Season Tournament in Grand Rapids, July 6-10.
