Pickleball Volley Progression Drill

Want better volleys? Stop trying to hit the ball so hard 🙅‍♀️ The biggest mistake I see is taking way too big of a backswing. The best volleyers don’t rely on a big swing—they rely on great positioning, clean contact, and a compact motion. Try this 3-step progression: 1️⃣ Catch the ball. No paddle. Just have a partner toss balls to you at the kitchen line. You don’t need a backswing to catch a ball, and that’s exactly the feeling you’re after. 2️⃣ Bump it back. Grab your paddle and simply block the ball back to your partner. No swing—just a controlled bump. 3️⃣ Add acceleration. Once that feels natural, add a small forward acceleration through contact. That’s where you’ll develop a clean, compact counter volley without ever taking the paddle back. 🚨 DISCOUNT ALERT 🚨 Comment the word “discounts” with no quotation marks and I’ll have my insta assistant (Betty the Bot 🤖) send you a link to my coupon code to Selkirk paddles/apparel and my other pickleball products! #pickleball #pickleballtips #pickleballaddiction #pickleballdrills Source: All Things Pickleball
