Starting on Wednesday, Proton pickleball paddles are available in-store and online at both DICK’S Sporting Goods and Scheels, marking a major milestone in Proton’s meteoric rise in popularity in just under two years.
Landing distribution with DICK’S alone is considered one of the most competitive achievements in the sporting goods industry. With hundreds of brands vying for limited shelf space, only a select group earns placement through DICK’S rigorous product evaluation process, one that requires exceptional performance, durability, and customer demand. Proton now joins that elite roster, while simultaneously launching in Scheels Sporting Goods, which is a feat in and of itself.
Proton has gone from a little-known startup, to one of the most exciting and innovative paddle makers in the sport since debuting their first paddles to the market in July 2024. Their focus on engineering, durability, and flashy paddle designs has earned both national and international attention, in large part due to the wildly popular Series Three Project Flamingo Paddle, which has become a favorite among pro players and amateurs alike. The Flamingo, available in both an elongated and square shape in 13mm and 15mm thicknesses, is one of the reasons why DICK’S and Scheels approached Proton.
Alongside the dual-retail rollout, Proton is unveiling its newest model in the acclaimed Series Three family: The Project Peacock. Designed for players who want to stand out, the Peacock blends vibrant style with Proton’s most advanced technology to date.
The Project Peacock features Proton’s high-density Atomic Foam Core, offering lightweight stability, enhanced feel, and longer dwell time—without sacrificing power. Built with aerospace-grade materials, the paddle is engineered to eliminate issues like delamination and core crush, giving players unmatched confidence shot after shot. In fact, in independent evaluations, the Peacock underwent extensive durability testing and maintained solid performance over thousands of hits. The Peacock’s roughness-enhanced surface also delivers maximum allowable spin, helping players shape shots with laser precision.

“We’re thrilled to share that players can now find Proton paddles, including our brand-new Project Peacock paddle, at both DICK’S Sporting Goods AND Scheels. This represents a significant accomplishment for our team and a proud moment for our community,” said Charles Darling, the founder of Proton Pickleball. “DICK’S and Scheels are two of the most respected and trusted retailers in the sporting world, and partnering with them both allows us to bring Proton’s innovation and craftsmanship to even more players nationwide. We couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.”
