Sewing and Munro Earn Double Gold in the APP AARP Open

Despite some weather issues, the APP AARP Open took place at The Fort this weekend, with Sofia Sewing and Jack Munro both earning double gold. 

This was the third stop in 2025 at The Fort, the home courts of the APP Tour.

Let’s get into the action.

Jack Munro Wins Gold in Both Mixed and Men’s Doubles

Munro earned two golds with Megan Fudge (mixed) and Will Howells (men’s). In mixed, Munro and Fudge had to beat Howells and Oshiro for gold. They did so in an extremely tight contest, 11-9 in the third.

Munro and Fudge won 11-7, but Oshiro and Howells stormed back in game two, winning 11-3. Fudge and Munro were able to beat Howells and Oshiro to earn their fourth title together this year.

In men’s doubles, Munro and Howells took care of the competition, winning every game they played in their five matches on their way to gold They faces Ryler DeHeart and Kyle Koszuta in the finals, dispatching them 11-9, 11-5. This was their sixth title together in 2025.

Sofia Sewing Wins Gold in Both Singles and Women’s Doubles

In singles, Sewing has now earned seven gold medals on the APP Tour in 2025. She has only lost twice this year. 

The semifinals is where Sewing started getting pushed by the competition. Newcomer, Seone Mendez came out of qualifiers, beating both Amanda Hendry and Jada Bui on her way to the semis. Mendez was up 11-4 in the first game, but Sewing came all the way back to win 16-14. Sewing won game two 15-10. Mendez would go on to win bronze, her first medal on the APP Tour.

Sewing won gold in singles over Bobbi Oshiro, winning 15-6 in the third game. She is the standout singles player on the APP Tour.

In women’s doubles Sewing and Shelby Bates were able to beat Allison Harris and Christine Maddox. This marked the second gold on tour this year for Bates and Sewing.

Megan Fudge and Amanda Hendry earned bronze in doubles.

Ammar Wazir Wins His Third Straight Gold

The former UIC tennis player has now won three tournaments in a row in men's singles. This is the second time he has beat Dusty Boyer for gold (the last time was the APP Great Lakes Open).

John Cangelosi took home bronze in men's singles.
