OVERALL TOP 5: 

  • TEXAS 3-STEP?: Can Anna Leigh Waters match her triple crown performance from Cape Coral?
  • WHO’S NEXT?: Christian Alshon won his first singles gold in Cape Coral – who is next for an inaugural visit to the winner’s circle?

  • NEW CORRAL: Courts of McKinney is the first-time host for the CIBC Texas Open in 2025.

VENUE/TOURNEY/TV:

  • McKinney, a northeast Dallas suburb, is the new home city. Defending medalists listed below are from the June 2024 event in Rockwall. 
  • Over 1,300 players participating in the event. 
  • Traditional format: singles Thursday, mixed Friday, men’s and women’s doubles Saturday, then Championship Sunday. 
  • PickleballTV (and the app) will have all of the coverage, plus additional broadcasts on FS1 and FS2 over the weekend. 

WOMEN’S SINGLES:

  • Defending Medalists: L. Jansen, Devidze, Parenteau
  • Anna Leigh Waters (1) lone loss in 2024 was at the Texas Open to Devidze (6).
  • Zoey Wang (8) made her first singles semi in Cape Coral but is in Waters’ quarter. 
  • Kate Fahey (4) won bronze in Cape Coral and looks to run to the Finals on the opposite side of the draw from Waters. 
  • Parenteau again chooses to sit out singles. 
  • Watch out for: Lea Jansen (5) – was back to peak form in Cape Coral with a runner-up finish.

MEN’S SINGLES:

  • Defending Medalists: Johns, Haworth, Staksrud
  • Ben Johns (2) won his first 2025 singles event in Mesa then was upset in Cape Coral by the teenage qualifier J. Lucian Goins who won bronze.
  • Staksrud (1) is back and seeks his first Sunday appearance since the Masters in January. 
  • Christian Alshon (7) looks to win 2 in a row but is in Ben Johns’ quarter. 
  • Watch out for: Jaume Martinez Vich (6) narrowly missed his first gold medal, winning game one from Alshon in the Cape Coral final, but lost in 3.

MIXED DOUBLES:

  • Defending medalists: Waters/Johns, Jorja Johnson/JW Johnson, Bright/McGuffin
  • Brother/sister defending silver medalists Johnsons (2) reunited after separate partners in Cape Coral. 
  • Martin Emmrich/Eva Radzikowska (37) look for another strong showing after a quarterfinal run in Cape Coral as part of Martin’s revenge tour (how was he not picked in MLP?). 
  • Phoenix Flames MLP partners Sock/Bouchard are paired as the 24 seed. 
  • Watch out for: Tuionetoa/Staksrud (6) – both players so talented – can they find the chemistry in their first tourney together since June ‘23? 

WOMEN’S DOUBLES:

  • Defending medalists: Waters/Parenteau, Bright/Rohrabacher, J. Johnson/Black
  • Waters/Parenteau (1) saved multiple game points against in game 1 of the finals in Cape Coral in defeating Bright/Rohrabacher (2) in 3. 
  • Black/Todd (3) should be in the medals mix. 
  • Pisnik/Fahey (8) – a team on the rise, looking for a signature win – will it happen in Texas? 
  • Watch out for: The Rivalry – will the 1 vs. 2 rematch become as chalk as any result in pro pickleball?

MEN’S DOUBLES:

  • Defending medalists: Frazier/Johnson, Wright/Bar, Martinez Vich/McGuffin.
  • Daescu seeks 4th men’s doubles title in a row, this week with Frazier as the 3 seed. 
  • Cape Coral silver medalists Alshon/Staksrud are the top seed – looking to rebound from a one-sided finals loss. 
  • Can the lefty/righty Tellez/Patriquin (4) partnership make a run to Sunday?
  • Watch out for: JW Johnson/CJ Klinger (7) – narrowly lost an 80-minute thriller in the semis in Cape Coral to Johns/Daescu – is this the most dangerous 7 seed in men’s doubles history?
