His weapon of choice is made out of titanium, called the Shogun. What it do? Brian here for The Pickleball Pirates, bringing you another bread-and-butter paddle review called Shogun. We'll let you know the specs, the feel, the overall performance, and the code that will save you 15% off the paddle. Stay tuned for a bonus close to the end of the video to see David get body bagged. Here we go. Specs: Weight: 8.0–8.3 oz (Mine came in at 8 oz) Swing Weight: 120 (we'll talk about that in a second) Twist Weight: 68 Thermofoam unibody construction Face: Carbon fiber and titanium weave Core Thickness: 16 mm high-density polypropylene (you know how to say it; I do not) Grip Length: 5.5" Circumference: 4.25" Octagon handle with vibration control USA Pickleball approved The Feel: Elongated paddles are my favorite paddles—they just feel right. Needless to say, Shogun has got me in my feels. Just kidding! The grip is comfortable, and the weight is great at eight. When you shake and bake, you break the face off the opponent. (Off the opponent of the… uh, don’t quit your day job there, guy.) About the Swing Weight: It’s a bit top-heavy, not by much, but I did put a little bit of weight on the bottom to even it out. For me, it was top-heavy. Top-heavy paddles help you get more power out of the paddle sometimes, so it depends on how you like it. Other than that, it feels nice. Oh wait, we can't forget to show this part—this is where David gets body bagged. Turn it up! Turn it up! It wasn’t even me that did it. Back to the video—overall performance. The titanium face definitely makes a difference because it has noticeable power. I like the power; I like the spin. It fit my drives pretty good, no issues. Counters were good, beat-ups were good, and they all handled well, as did dinks. As far as blocking and resetting, one thing I felt right away was that the ball didn’t sit on the paddle long. I think that’s the major reason I wasn’t able to control my resets as much as I wanted to, but it does great everywhere else. Faux Shogun, eh? Anyways, in my opinion, the Shogun is for players who are looking more for pop than control. Use the code on the screen to get 15% off your Shogun or any other bread-and-butter paddles. That’s it!
