Meyer reunites with National Champions Brandon Siler and Caleb Sturgis to represent football on the pickleball courts
(CLEARWATER, Fla. – Oct. 10, 2023) PBX Pickleball, the organization that unites retired professional athletes with the pickleball community, has signed 3x College Football National Champion Head Coach Urban Meyer to participate in pickleball events as a “PBX Pro.” Through PBX Pickleball, Meyer will reunite with two former players from his National Championship teams at the University of Florida: 2006 BCS National Champion and 6-year NFL veteran Brandon Siler and 2009 BCS National Champion and NFL kicker Caleb Sturgis.
Meyer, Siler, and Sturgis will represent the sport of football on the pickleball courts along with retired NFL Pro Bowler and Super Bowl Champ Golden Tate. They are part of a list of accomplished retired professional athletes participating in the PBX Tour, PBX Pro-Ams, PBX Dream Weekends, and PBX Corporate Events starting later this year.
Players have attended PBX Training Camps, which took place at The Pickleball Club in Sarasota, FL, and The Pickle Shack in Delaware, OH, in August. Meyer attended both PBX Training Camps, which also included retired players from the MLB, NBA, and NHL, in addition to Olympians.
PBX Pickleball also signed Baseball Hall of Famer John Smoltz, Basketball Hall of Famer Rick Barry, 7x All-Star and World Series Champion Matt Holliday, 4x All-Star and 2x World Series Champion Mike Lowell, 3x All-Star and 2x World Series Champion Josh Beckett, and 2x All-Star and 2x World Series Champion Jeff Conine.
Advisors for PBX Pickleball include 3x MLB All-Star Kevin Youkilis, 4x World Series Champ Tino Martinez, 2x MLB All-Star Brad Penny, 18-year MLB veteran Kent Mercker, NHL Player, Coach, GM and Team President Paul Holmgren, and 4x Stanley Cup Champ Kris Draper. The PBX advisors will also take the pickleball courts as PBX Pros.
In the PBX Tour, the PBX Pros will represent their respective sports in tournaments for live audiences nationwide. In the PBX Pro-Ams, Dream Weekends, and Corporate Experiences, amateur pickleball players will have the opportunity to take the pickleball courts with the retired stars from baseball, hockey, football, basketball, and other sports.
As part of its outreach to athletes across major American sports, PBX Pickleball partnered with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) and the NHL Alumni Association. PBX also partnered with Parity to reach women athletes across 70+ sports.
