The 2025 Minto US Open Pickleball Championships once again delivered an unforgettable week of record-breaking competition and camaraderie, firmly cementing its status as the most prestigious tournament in pickleball. Since its inception in 2016, the US Open has made pickleball history year after year—and 2025 was no exception.

Held at the state-of-the-art USOP National Pickleball Center in Naples, Florida, the event not only set records, but also set the tone for the future of pickleball.

The Biggest Pickleball Party in the World™: A Global, Inclusive Celebration

The numbers for this year’s championship spoke volumes with a record-setting 3,450 players, 5,600 matches played, and 55,000 spectators throughout the week.

“The Minto US Open Pickleball Championships built a legacy as the most iconic event in pickleball, and this year we proudly elevated that tradition to new heights,” said US Open Tournament Director, Ben Weinberger. “The Open is unlike any other—it’s not only a tournament, it’s a celebration of the sport and the incredible community behind it. Congratulations to all of our athletes for their outstanding performances, and a heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, referees, and the entire US Open team whose passion and dedication made this unforgettable week possible.”

The Open provides a true representation of the sport’s inclusivity and growing global presence. Athletes ranged in age from 7 to 87, representing all 50 states and an astounding 40 countries. Wheelchair events occurred throughout the week and were highlighted by a special wheelchair exhibition on Zing Zang Championship Court. The inspiring competition drew enthusiastic support from fans and fellow athletes.

Big Names, Big Wins, and Breakout Moments

This year’s event launched with a significant expansion: the largest junior pickleball competition in the country. The JOOLA Junior Championships, held April 26–27, featured talented athletes from across the U.S. The tournament highlighted the sport’s growing popularity with youth and set the stage for a week full of milestones. New for 2025 was the Progressive Draw format for pro events, a change that enhanced the competition and viewing experience by delivering thrilling matches every day of the tournament.

In one of the week’s most headline-grabbing moments, tennis icon Andre Agassi made his historic pickleball tournament debut, drawing a record-breaking crowd. His participation marked a significant cultural crossover as he teamed up with pickleball legend Anna Leigh Waters for his first competitive appearance in the sport. With a shared passion for growing the sport and an aggressive playing style in common, Agassi and Waters proved to be a formidable duo as they emerged victorious in their first match against Stevie Petropouleas and Tristan Dussault.

Anna Leigh Waters and her mother, Leigh Waters, successfully defended their title in the Pro Women’s Doubles division, securing the gold medal for the second year in a row. Their bond, as athletes and as family, created a thrilling experience for fans as they watched their dominant performance and connection on the court.

The tournament also highlighted the standout performances of mixed doubles partners Megan Fudge and Jack Munro, with both partners earning double gold medals. Munro’s win with Len Yang in men’s pro doubles was particularly meaningful, as it marked Yang’s first pro medal on U.S. soil.

Megan Fudge delivered a dominant performance across multiple events, earning gold medals in Pro Women’s Singles, Pro Mixed Doubles, and the Women’s Split Pro event with partner Sheri Courter. Fudge and teammate Jillian Braverman also claimed a silver medal in Pro Women’s Doubles, cementing her status as one of the most accomplished players at the 2025 US Open.

The Dedication Behind the Scenes

Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of 500 volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the week to ensure the tournament ran seamlessly, creating an unforgettable experience for players and visitors alike. Their commitment adds a personal touch to the event, creating a sense of community that draws people back year after year.

Notably, every single match was refereed for the first time in US Open history, a milestone that elevated the professionalism of the event and set a new standard for tournament operations. The success and smooth execution of the tournament wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication, precision, and unwavering commitment of more than 125 referees. Each referee ensured fair play, upheld the highest standards, and kept the action running smoothly.

2025 also marked the first year that Pickleball Den served as the official tournament software of The US Open. Its implementation allowed for a seamless experience for players, streamlining scheduling, improving efficiency, and providing real-time event updates.
