The Edward Jones Major League Pickleball (MLP) Mid-Season Tournament is taking over Grand Rapids, Michigan this week.

In partnership with the Beer City Open, MLP is hosting its Mid-Season Tournament at the Belknap Park starting Wednesday, July 9th.

All 22 MLP teams and two collegiate teams are battling it out for pride, prize money, and potential regular season standings points.

Let’s get into the action.

Top Storylines

Regular season standings points are on the line

This is true for both Premier Level and Challenger Level:

  • 1st place - 6 points
  • 2nd place - 4 points
  • 3rd place - 2 points

Winning the Mid-Season Tournament is like winning two matches in regulation during the regular season, with your opponents (other than 2nd and 3rd) not being able to win any points. It could be huge for any teams in the 4th - 12th spots, vying for seeding and/or playoff spots, if they could earn a top three finish.

Prize money is on the line

$100,000 is on the line this year in the 2025 Mid-Season Tournament. This is half the prize money from last year, but this is still one of only a few tournaments where players can earn prize money on top of their guaranteed contracts.

Premier Level:

  • 1st Place: $50,000 total
  • 2nd Place: $25,000 total
  • 3rd Place: $12,500 total

Challenger Level:

  • 1st Place: $7,000 total
  • 2nd Place: $3,500 total
  • 3rd Place: $2,000 total

  • AJ Khawaja (TCU)

Additionally, the Florida Atlantic University club team will face the Nashville Chefs in the first round. The FAU team:

  • Ava Cavataio
  • Bella Nelson
  • Zachary Card
  • Zachary Marceau

Weather Outlook

Rain does seem to be in the forecast for Wednesday and Saturday. There are alternative indoor options for the Mid-Season Tournament, should that come up.

Note: Seeding was done in reverse order of standings, in terms of points per match.

Of note, while this is a double elimination tournament, if a team loses and goes to the loser's bracket, the best they can finish is in third place.
