Hi guys! Welcome to today's paddle review of the Mage Pro Gen 2 from Hudef. This is an absolutely fantastic paddle, and Mage means sorcerer or wizard, and that's exactly what I felt like on the court using this paddle. It offers a fantastic blend of power and control. One of the best things about this paddle, and Hudef as a company, is the price point. With their Gen 2 and Gen 3 paddles, the retail cost of this paddle comes in at $169.99. However, if you head over to Hudefsport.com and use the Pickleball Pirates code, you'll get 15% off, which brings the price down to around $144.49. This is a fantastic paddle overall, and for $144 with free shipping, it's an incredible deal. Hudef also offers a lifetime warranty on their paddles, and they have fantastic craftsmanship. I would highly recommend this particular paddle. Alright, so let's get into some of the specs of this paddle. The first thing to notice is that it has a raw carbon fiber face mixed together with Kevlar in a 50/50 blend. This is a hybrid-shaped paddle, meaning it's a little bit shorter at 16.1 inches, whereas others are usually around 16.5 inches. The weight of this paddle out of the box is 8 oz. The core is made of a polypropylene honeycomb, and the width is 7.8 inches. This paddle comes in two different thicknesses: 14 mm and 16 mm. Let's talk about the pop and power of this paddle. As I mentioned earlier, this is not a classic power paddle, but that doesn't mean it lacks power. By adding some lead tape to the top, you can increase the swing weight and add more power. My drives were crisp and clear, putting a lot of pressure on my opponents. However, it does lack a bit of power compared to some of the newer Gen 3 paddles. This paddle isn't the best for speed-ups and putaways. In toe-to-toe situations with newer Gen 3 paddles, you might be at a slight disadvantage. Now, let's discuss control. This paddle is an absolute dream to control. I usually play with the Gearbox Pro, which is one of the least controllable paddles on the market, so switching to this paddle made a huge difference. I noticed right away that I could easily control my shots. My drops to the kitchen were more consistent, and I could place the ball exactly where I wanted. This paddle strikes a great balance between power and control, making resets at the net much easier. Next up is spin. This paddle offers spin at around 1,850 revolutions per minute, which is quite high. You can really feel it when you drive the ball and get under it, as the ball drops sharply over the net. The high spin was one of my favorite features of this paddle. Let’s move on to twist weight. The 14 mm version has a twist weight of 6.3, and the 16 mm version has a twist weight of 6.5. This puts them at the 47th and 58th percentiles, respectively, compared to other paddles. A higher twist weight makes the paddle more forgiving on off-centered shots. If you want even more control, you can add lead tape to the sides to increase the twist weight. For comparison, the Gearbox Pro I usually play with has a twist weight of 5.17, which is one of the lowest among all paddles. Moving to this paddle was a much easier experience in terms of control. Now let's discuss swing weight. The 14 mm paddle has a swing weight of 108, while the 16 mm paddle has a swing weight of 115, placing them at the 7th and 45th percentiles, respectively. Swing weight measures how heavy the head feels. These paddles are not particularly head-heavy, but adding lead tape to the top will increase the swing weight, giving you more power and stabilization. For comparison, paddles like the Joola and Bantam TK have a swing weight around 116, putting them in the 58th percentile. While the Mage Pro Gen 2 isn't as balanced out of the box as some other paddles, this can easily be adjusted. Overall, I loved the Mage Pro Gen 2. The Kevlar provides a bit of extra pop, it’s easy to control, and the power is decent. Hudef is a fantastic company with excellent craftsmanship, and they stand behind their products. I highly recommend this paddle if you’re looking for a Gen 2 option. As I mentioned earlier, you can visit Hudefsport.com and use the Pickleball Pirates code to get 15% off your order. Thank you so much for watching this paddle review, and I hope you have an awesome day! #pickleball #pickleballpaddlereview #pickleballpaddle #pickleballreview Source: The Pickleball Pirates
